Motherhood is often portrayed as a blissful journey, but for many, it's a storm: messy, beautiful, and transformative.
Navigating Motherhood through Postpartum Depression and Unexpected Trauma
Shortly after the birth of her daughter in 2019, Casey found herself struggling, but like many new mothers, her early warning signs of postpartum depression were dismissed as "baby blues." Without the support she needed and battling internal fears about losing custody of her child, Casey delayed seeking help. By the time she was diagnosed seven months postpartum, she already felt deeply isolated and misunderstood.
A subsequent unexpected pregnancy and a traumatic abortion experience compounded her grief, leading to what she describes as a near-death emotional spiral. Yet in these depths, Casey began the slow process of rediscovery.

Healing Through Pole Dance, Music, and Plant Medicine
Casey’s return to creativity became her lifeline. From pole dancing to songwriting, she reclaimed her body, mind, and spirit. Her artistic journey eventually led to competing professionally in pole dance, recording an album, and producing a one-woman show that debuted in New York and later received international recognition.
Casey also credits psilocybin therapy, both microdosing and guided macrodosing, for playing a vital role in her healing. (Learn more about the growing research on psychedelics for mental health).
Importantly, she emphasizes that true healing isn’t just about individual effort; it’s about finding or rebuilding community. Moving from New York to Virginia helped Casey finally experience the "village" that so many modern parents are missing.

The Power of Choosing Creativity Every Day
One of the most poignant moments Casey shares is a simple lyric her young daughter wrote: "Creativity is a choice."
Whether through motherhood, trauma, or self-reinvention, Casey’s story is a reminder that no matter where you are in your journey, choosing creativity is choosing yourself again and again.
