When Pregnancy Doesn't Go As Planned

Motherhood often begins with dreams of cozy newborn snuggles and peaceful bonding, but for Ashlee King, it started with a whirlwind of medical crises and emotional survival. On a recent episode of Quiet Connection, Ashlee courageously shared her experience with severe hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), preeclampsia, HELLP syndrome, postpartum hemorrhage, and a high-risk C-section delivery at just 32 weeks.

Surviving the Journey

Ashlee’s pregnancy was marked by constant illness and fear. Diagnosed with HG and later preeclampsia, she struggled to advocate for herself in a system that dismissed her symptoms. Despite her high-risk status, crucial warning signs were overlooked, nearly costing her life and her daughter’s.

After an emergency C-section and postpartum hemorrhage, Ashlee’s daughter was rushed to the NICU weighing just two pounds. Ashlee herself experienced multiple hemorrhages in the months that followed, one even while holding her baby.

“I felt like if I allowed myself to feel anything, I’d fall apart. So I didn’t feel anything at all.” – Ashlee King

Mental Health in the Aftermath

Ashlee’s journey didn’t end after she brought her daughter home on oxygen. She battled postpartum anxiety, intrusive thoughts, and mom rage, all while navigating food allergies and isolation. She eventually found support through a naturopath and connecting with other moms on TikTok.

“I started posting about my experience and moms came out of the woodwork saying, ‘Me too.’ That’s when I knew I wasn’t alone.”

Finding Power in Vulnerability

Ashlee’s story is not just about trauma, it’s about resilience, advocacy, and breaking the silence. Her message is clear: trust your instincts, find your community, and never be afraid to speak up for yourself or your child.
