Navigating Motherhood After Loss: Midori’s Story
In the latest episode of Quiet Connection, Chelsea speaks with Midori—a mother of three, trauma-informed advocate, and co-founder of Simply Midori—about what it really means to parent through grief, anxiety, and healing.
Midori’s motherhood journey wasn’t linear. She experienced two miscarriages before each of her three children, a reality she never expected and rarely heard discussed. “No one told me this was even a possibility,” she shared. “You think you get pregnant and then have a baby. That’s the story you’re sold.”
Coping With Pregnancy After Miscarriage
The emotional toll of pregnancy after miscarriage was intense. Midori described the anxiety that lingered through each pregnancy, despite having medical reassurance. “I was always asking, ‘Do you think she’s okay?’ I wanted to enjoy being pregnant, but I was missing out because I was so anxious.”
With the help of a long-standing therapist and strong marital support, Midori learned to sit with hard feelings rather than suppress them. She emphasized the importance of early and consistent mental health support: “We were already in therapy when the miscarriages happened, and I truly believe that made all the difference.”

For those navigating similar experiences, resources like Postpartum Support International can be life-changing.
Talking to Kids About Grief and Loss
Midori and her husband believe in bringing their children into the conversation—even when it’s hard. When their oldest daughter was four or five, she mourned a lost sibling alongside them. “We told her the truth—that the baby was gone—and we let her cry.”
Midori explains that creating space for children to feel grief without rushing to fix it helps build emotional intelligence early. “We have a saying in our house: If we feel like we need to hide something, it probably means we need to talk about it.”

From Trauma to Purpose: Simply Midori
Born from personal healing, Simply Midori is a therapeutic coaching practice Midori runs with her husband. Together, they help others explore how trauma impacts their present-day choices. “If we don’t know why we do what we do, we can’t change it,” she says.
Their podcast and counseling offerings center around making the hard things feel less lonely—just like this episode of Quiet Connection.
Final Thoughts:
Midori’s story is a powerful reminder that motherhood is rarely picture-perfect. But with honesty, support, and the willingness to talk about the hard stuff, healing is possible—even in the quiet.
